Largest Single Naming Gifts of $5 million from Campaign Leaders
Launch Next Era of Philanthropic Giving and Clinical Excellence at Doylestown Health
Doylestown Health Foundation received an unprecedented $10 million in new gifts from philanthropists and campaign co-leaders Alex and Patricia Gorsky ($5 million) and Richard T. and Angela Clark ($5 million). Representing the largest single gifts in Doylestown Health’s history, the announcement signals a new era in philanthropic giving.
“We are deeply grateful to the Gorskys and the Clarks for their leadership and significant investments in our future,” said Jim Brexler, President and CEO, Doylestown Health. “These transformational gifts will help us realize our vision as we approach our second century of delivering healthcare.”
Both the Gorskys and Clarks designated their commitments to Doylestown Health’s Second Century Fund, earmarked to support the priority needs of Doylestown Health’s capital projects at both the Doylestown Hospital and Pine Run Retirement Community campuses. Construction is underway on a new, state-of-the-art Heart and Vascular facility on the Hospital’s main campus, as well as Pine Run’s new Community Center – familiarly known as the “Hub.” Additional priorities of the comprehensive fundraising campaign for Doylestown Health, include: new and expanded operating suites, a new outpatient pavilion, and upgraded and enhanced amenities for patients and families.
“Four generations of our family have been cared for at Doylestown Hospital — from the births of our grandchildren at the VIA Maternity Center to the specialized geriatric services provided to our parents at Pine Run’s Health Center,” note Dick and Angela. “Through our outstanding personal patient experiences to the expert care we have witnessed for our family and received ourselves, we are proud to give back to Doylestown Health. This hospital is a gem in our community and we want it to thrive for future generations.”
Alex and Patricia Gorsky’s $5 million gift was inspired by their affinity for Doylestown as Alex, CEO of Johnson & Johnson since 2012, was a Doylestown Hospital Board member and his wife, Patricia, is a current member of the Doylestown Hospital Board of Directors. Pat is also a former nurse in the hospital’s cardiac catheterization lab, and is “proud to support the incredible care at Doylestown Hospital that remains some of the best in the country. The dedication of the physicians, nurses and staff is matched by their expertise and compassion,” she shared.
“Our Medical Staff is truly dedicated to Doylestown Health and we have set a goal to collectively contribute at least $2 million in support of the comprehensive campaign, nearly twice what was contributed during the most recent campaign to support the renovation and expansion of the Emergency Department,” said Mary Ellen Pelletier, MD, President of the Doylestown Hospital Medical Staff. “We are inspired and humbled by the trust that the Clarks and Gorskys have placed in this institution and join them in our desire to strengthen the future of Doylestown Health.”
“At the time they founded Doylestown Hospital in 1923, the leaders of the Village Improvement Association (VIA) garnered the support of the Doylestown community for their ambitious vision to provide the very best health care right here in our community,” noted Joan Parlee, Chair of the Doylestown Hospital and Doylestown Health Foundation Boards of Directors. “Because of the exceptional gifts from the Clarks, the Gorskys, the ambitious goal set by our Medical Staff and our very own leadership, and the generosity of individuals yet to come, we will be able to reach the next level of health care for our community.”
The last major philanthropic campaign for Doylestown Health in 2008 supported the expansion of the Emergency Department. “This campaign sets the stage for a new era of philanthropic giving at Doylestown Health,” said Laura K. Wortman, Vice President and Chief Development Officer. “The Clarks and Gorskys could go anywhere for health care but choose Doylestown Health. In that spirit they have embraced this opportunity to co-lead the first comprehensive campaign in the hospital’s history, helping to pave the way for our next century of delivering superior healthcare to the community.” She continued, “Our Hospital and Foundation Boards and Administration have also unanimously pledged 100 percent participation in our fundraising efforts. These commitments will allow Doylestown Health to build a future worthy of our past.”
