A track record of success matters to William Mulligan. It is something he considers carefully when making investment decisions, both as a breeder of harness racers and a consumer of healthcare.
At the 2016 Hambletonian Stakes, the world’s most famous harness race, William Mulligan watched as the horse he bred edged up the rail and gained on the leader. In a thrilling finish, Mulligan’s horse, Marion Marauder, pulled out the stops and won by a nose. It was the kind of finish a breeder dreams of – but one that also results from smart investments based on experience, quality, talent and a track record of success.
A successful businessman and engineer, Mulligan also understands the value of dedication and hard work. For 43 years, he was employed by Ingersoll Rand, beginning his career as a product development engineer and eventually rising to the rank of executive vice president.
After his retirement in 1995, Mulligan and his wife, Eileen, moved to the Doylestown area, buying farms and pursuing his passion for breeding harness racers. A pragmatic man, he also looked ahead to the future as it related to his health, and decided to support the health system he knew he would come to rely on. “Over the years, I’ve been a constant visitor to Doylestown Hospital,” he said. “I suffer from heart failure and other issues. It just makes sense to contribute to the hospital so it’s there when I need it.”
Noting that quality of care is essential, Mulligan explained, “I wouldn’t be here today if the care at Doylestown Hospital hadn’t been so good. It’s been very good.” Mulligan also utilizes the services of Doylestown Health visiting nurses for home care assistance related to some of his conditions. “I have a wonderful wife who takes care of me,” he said, “But the visiting nurses have been very helpful.”
Now age 86, Mulligan is looking ahead and plans to continue taking an active role in his healthcare. Because of Doylestown Health’s collaborative approach, he knows he can rely on them to help navigate the healthcare industry and ensure that he receives the best treatment plan possible. “I have a few medical issues I need to address,” he said.
“Doylestown Hospital has been very good in helping me connect with doctors throughout the region who specialize in my conditions. Doylestown has a good relationship with other medical centers. It’s important to me that when I want to get a second opinion or additional input, my Doylestown doctors are willing to help me with that.”
It is all of these experiences that have influenced the Mulligans’ support of Doylestown Health. As donors who have continuously contributed to the organization for more than 20 years, the Mulligans understand the value of quality healthcare, a talented medical staff, dedication to community and a history of continual progress and achievement.
William and Eileen recently made a significant contribution to help launch the renovation and expansion of heart and vascular facilities, services and programs at Doylestown Hospital. As with the Mulligans’ many previous investments, they are confident it will be money well spent.
Doylestown Health continues planning for a future built on improving the patient experience as well as the health of our community. To demonstrate this commitment, we are embarking on a transformative renovation and expansion of our heart and vascular facilities, services and programs. With plans to expand the existing footprint three-fold, construction will make room for:
The renovations will be designed for enhanced patient safety and patient privacy and will include a state-of-the-art hybrid operating suite. The endovascular hybrid operating room combines advanced imaging capabilities with a fully integrated surgical suite, allowing for more complex minimally-invasive vascular and endovascular procedures.
