Meet the visionary leaders and partners at the helm of ONE VISION: The Campaign for Doylestown Health
A first in Doylestown Health’s history, ONE VISION: The Campaign for Doylestown Health signals a new era of philanthropy and sets the stage for a second century of healthcare excellence. With a goal of $100 million—increased in 2021 from the original $75 million—“our comprehensive campaign will support bold plans to transform healthcare delivery across our system, ensuring that Doylestown Health has the resources to remain an independent, innovative and patient-centered organization,” says Jim Brexler, President and CEO. “This is an incredibly exciting time to be a part of Doylestown Health.”
A series of capital improvements across Doylestown Health began with the groundbreaking for the new Woodall Center for Heart and Vascular Care (slated for completion in 2019). The main section (Phase One) of the Community Center at Pine Run opened in August, creating a new focal point and “Hub” for activities and dining on campus. Campaign priorities also include surgical suite renovations and expansion, construction of an outpatient pavilion, and a new main entrance at Doylestown Hospital. These signature projects will be completed by 2023, when Doylestown Health celebrates our 100th Anniversary.
“Embarking on a campaign of this magnitude is a significant milestone for Doylestown Health. With this campaign, we continue to build on a remarkable tradition of philanthropic and volunteer support that began with our founders, the Village Improvement Association of Doylestown (VIA),” notes Laura Wortman, Vice President and Chief Development Officer.
Prior to the One Vision campaign public launch on June 1, 2018, a campaign “quiet phase” allowed for campaign volunteer leadership to engage at the earliest stages of campaign planning. During this time, “we also secured commitments from members of our boards of trustees, our senior leadership, medical staff and associates,” says Wortman. “Our own participation is a key factor in recruiting a campaign committee that can advocate for our priority initiatives and engage the greater community.”
“Doylestown Health is truly fortunate. When we invited Dick and Angela Clark to serve as chairs for our campaign, they answered the call enthusiastically and without hesitation,” notes Brexler. The Clarks joined Honorary Chairs Alex and Pat Gorsky to bring the One Vision campaign to life. “That these esteemed healthcare leaders chose to work closely with us, out of the many organizations that seek their support, speaks volumes,” says Joan Parlee, Chair of the Doylestown Hospital and Doylestown Health Foundation Boards of Trustees.
In addition to serving in lead campaign roles, the Clarks and Gorskys each made transformational gifts of $5 million, representing the largest single gifts in Doylestown Health’s history and another milestone in philanthropic giving. Both the Clarks and the Gorskys designated their commitments to Doylestown Health’s Second Century Fund, earmarked to support the priority needs of Doylestown Health’s capital projects. Their gifts, along with early investments by other members of the campaign committee, have helped raise nearly $32 million toward the campaign goal.
Alex and Pat Gorsky’s gift was inspired by their affinity for Doylestown Health. Alex, CEO of Johnson & Johnson since 2012, was a Doylestown Hospital Board member and Pat is a current member of the Doylestown Hospital Board of Trustees and a member of the VIA. A former nurse in the hospital’s cardiac catheterization lab, Pat shared that “when Alex and I left Doylestown and our careers took us elsewhere, I was able to observe other healthcare organizations in action. Doylestown remained my point of comparison in so many ways but always remained the gold standard for compassionate patient care. So when we were approached to be a part of this incredible campaign for Doylestown’s future, we said yes without a second thought. We are truly pleased to serve alongside an amazing group of men and women in this campaign who care just as deeply about Doylestown Health as we do,” Pat noted.
We feel fortunate to have such high-quality healthcare in our community and, for nearly 100 years, Doylestown Health has embraced its responsibility to deliver exceptional healthcare in every aspect. Four generations of our family have relied on the lifesaving, compassionate care delivered by highly skilled physicians and nurses across specialties at Doylestown Health. Their team of experts and family of care have been by our side, seeing us through situations from the rare to the routine—making the very best decisions with our needs as patients placed first.
That’s why ONE VISION: The Campaign for Doylestown Health is so important to us personally. We are honored to serve as chairs of this unprecedented campaign to secure the future of this amazing, independent healthcare resource in our community for generations to come. We need to keep challenging ourselves to improve standards and reach for the next level.
In order to be successful, we rely on our partnerships with the community. Doylestown Health has always answered the call for us, now we firmly believe that our community should answer the call to support these ambitious plans for our second century and beyond.
It’s not often that we have an opportunity to truly build a legacy for future generations of our own families and neighbors. Together, we will secure an enduring legacy of care and our vision—One Vision—for the future of Doylestown Health.
We invite you to join us.
