According to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), precision medicine is “an emerging approach for disease treatment and prevention that takes into account individual variability in genes, environment, and lifestyle for each person.” The goal of precision medicine is to design a treatment strategy based on each patient’s unique genetic profile, in order to yield more effective treatments and better outcomes. Instead of the traditional “one size fits all” approach, in which all patients with the same diagnosis receive the same treatment, Doylestown Health’s clinical team applies targeted therapies based on unique genetic profiles resulting in better outcomes.
Your investment will support the acquisition of state-of-the-art technology that can determine the sequence of patients’ DNA or RNA, and study genetic variations associated with diseases. Hosting this technology in-house will reduce the time from biopsy to diagnosis by more than 50 percent, allowing patients to begin treatment—and healing—faster.
Support for this campaign priority will allow for investments in three key areas:
- New sequencing equipment capable of identifying unique DNA and RNA markers, and dramatically reducing testing times, and in turn accelerating treatment for patients with a broad range of conditions
- Renovation and expansion to the pathology lab to allow for greater efficiency and meet the rapidly rising demand for testing services at Doylestown Hospital
- Increased staffing and clinical education and training to position Doylestown Health’s laboratory teams at the scientific forefront
