DOYLESTOWN – Almost one year to the day of the public launch of ONE VISION: The Campaign for Doylestown Health, the Doylestown Health Foundation announces another transformational investment with a leadership gift of $2.5 million from philanthropists and longtime supporters Marv and Dee Ann Woodall. Representing one of the largest gifts in Doylestown Health’s history, their gift will name the new Center for Heart and Vascular Care at Doylestown Hospital.
Along with their gift, the Woodalls and their family have issued a challenge to the community, the Woodall Family Challenge, to double their gift to Doylestown Health by June 30, 2019.
“The Woodall’s support of Doylestown Health goes back decades and this gift builds on their already transformational generosity to the hospital and to our community. Their partnership and enthusiasm for innovation has helped to advance our Heart and Vascular programs to national renown. We are deeply grateful to Marv and Dee Ann and the entire Woodall family for this significant investment in the future of healthcare in our community,” said Jim Brexler, President and CEO, Doylestown Health. “This gift will allow us to continue to innovate and provide access to award-winning heart and vascular care close to home.”
A strong advocate for innovation given his career as the President of Johnson & Johnson’s Interventional Systems (JJIS), Woodall, now retired, led the team that developed balloon expandable stents, one of the most significant medical devices in recent history. The Woodalls involvement at Doylestown Health spans decades with investments in signature programs such as the Woodall Chest Pain Center and the BSN 2020 initiative that supports continued nursing education.
“Both Marv and Dee Ann are incredibly supportive of our nursing staff through the BSN 2020 initiative which provides funding for nurses to obtain a Bachelor of Science degree,” notes Eleanor Wilson, Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. “The Woodalls know that leading-edge medicine will be most effective when it’s delivered by staff who are trained in the latest advancements and therapies. Their generosity benefits patients across Doylestown Health, in addition to the heart and vascular programs.”
Construction is underway on the new, state-of-the-art Cardiovascular and Critical Care Pavilion on the Hospital’s flagship campus. Slated for completion later this year, the pavilion will house the new Woodall Center for Heart and Vascular Care, as well as the Clark Center for Critical Care Medicine.
As a comprehensive cardiovascular program, the Woodall Center for Heart and Vascular Care will continue to provide advanced care with seamless coordination, delivering routine and emergent cardiovascular treatment and prevention services with a personalized approach. Encompassing the Reif Heart Institute, General Cardiology, Interventional Cardiology, Electrophysiology, Cardiothoracic Surgery and Vascular Surgery, the Woodall Center for Heart and Vascular Care will set the stage for Doylestown Health’s next century of innovation and excellence in healthcare.
“With our family’s $2.5 million matching challenge, our goal is to inspire others to reflect upon their own experience with Doylestown Health and match us in our increased support,” states Woodall. “Together, we can have a collective impact of $5 million that is vital to Doylestown Health’s plans to build state-of-the-art facilities commensurate with the clinical expertise and superior patient care upon which our community depends.”
“The Woodalls are true philanthropic partners,” says Laura Wortman, Vice President and Chief Development Officer. “Their interest and partnership has helped pave the way for national recognition in heart and vascular care, among other specialties, and allowed us to continue to recruit top physicians. The Woodall Family Challenge provides an exciting opportunity for us to maximize the impact of their gift and optimize community support for this important project,” continued Wortman.
To date, ONE VISION: The Campaign for Doylestown Health is the largest in the history of Doylestown Health with a $75 million goal. Campaign priorities include the Center for Heart and Vascular Care, the Center for Critical Care Medicine, and an Outpatient Rehabilitation Center, as well as Pine Run’s new Community Center – familiarly known as the “Hub.” Additional priorities of the comprehensive fundraising campaign for Doylestown Health, include: new and expanded operating suites, upgraded and enhanced amenities for patients and families, a new main entrance and community-learning space, along with an endowment to secure Doylestown Health’s future well beyond its centennial anniversary in 2023.
