DOYLESTOWN, PA – Friends of the Heart Institute has exceeded a $2 million fundraising goal supporting award-winning cardiovascular care at Doylestown Health.
Friends of the Heart Institute—an all-volunteer community organization of more than 400 members—announced a pledge to raise $1 million for ONE VISION: The Campaign for Doylestown Health in 2017, and voted to increase that goal to $2 million in 2020. There have been more than 3,450 donations to Friends since 2017, from more than 600 individual donors. All gifts support the campaign priority for advancing nationally recognized cardiovascular care at Doylestown Health, specifically the construction of the Cardiovascular and Critical Care Pavilion at Doylestown Hospital that opened in December 2019, and further program developments.
“What Friends of the Heart Institute has been able to accomplish through community support is nothing short of remarkable,” says Sara Moyer, Co-Chair of the Friends Steering Committee. “We are so thankful for our generous supporters, who are willing to take that extra step to keep our heart and vascular care program strong and one of the best in the nation. But we are not done yet: with four months left in our five-year pledge, there are heart and vascular priorities on the horizon that still need significant funding. We can reach even higher with continued support.”
Since 1978, when it was established by Herman Silverman as the $100 Heart Club, Friends of the Heart Institute has raised more than $3.2 million to support the top priorities of cardiovascular care at Doylestown Health, including investments in community education and outreach, cutting-edge technology and cardiac rehabilitation equipment, and facilities commensurate with Doylestown Health’s reputation for excellence.
In 2017, contributions to Friends of the Heart Institute were instrumental in funding the seed grant that kickstarted the research, design, and construction of the Cardiovascular and Critical Care Pavilion. Since then, multiple construction projects have reached fulfillment as Doylestown Health continues to expand and enhance cardiovascular services.
First, in December 2017, Doylestown Health celebrated the opening of the endovascular hybrid operating room within the Gorsky Heart and Vascular Suite, newly named in recognition of the generosity of honorary campaign chairs Alex and Pat Gorsky. In December 2019, the second floor Della Penna Cardiovascular Intensive Care/Interventional Unit opened as part of the Woodall Center for Heart and Vascular Care. This past April, the third floor Putman Intensive Care/Intermediate Unit opened as part of the Clark Center for Critical Care Medicine. Today, construction is underway on the first floor of the Cardiovascular and Critical Care Pavilion, which will house the cardiopulmonary rehabilitation program.
Doylestown Health continues to seek support for Friends of the Heart Institute and cardiovascular care now that the $2 million goal has been reached.
“We are so grateful for and humbled by the support of the community that has brought Friends to their ambitious goal,” says Laura Wortman, Vice President and Chief Development Officer, Doylestown Health. “As always, our work continues. Philanthropy allows us to set our sights higher and invest in the future of award-winning heart and vascular care at Doylestown Health.”
