DOYLESTOWN, PA — A $1 million grant from the Pennsylvania Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP) was awarded to Doylestown Health on December 23, supporting the relocation and expansion of the Women’s Diagnostic Center, now reopened as the Clark Center for Breast Imaging, at Doylestown Hospital.
The Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP) grant is a Commonwealth grant program administered by the Office of the Budget for the acquisition and construction of regional economic, cultural, civic, recreational and historical projects. Grant awardees demonstrate substantial increases or maintain current levels of employment, tax revenues or other measures of economic activity.
In response to the growing need for innovation in breast cancer diagnostics, Doylestown Health made the Women’s Diagnostic Center the newest priority of ONE VISION: The Campaign for Doylestown Health in 2020. In its current location, the Women’s Diagnostic Center serves more than 17,000 patients a year. The planned relocation to a larger space in the hospital will increase capacity for up to an additional 2,500 patients, including additional space for mammography and ultrasound, and new equipment featuring the latest innovations in diagnostic imaging.
The RACP grant is a significant milestone in advancing the realization of this critical priority. “Everyone of us in the Women’s Diagnostic Center is thrilled to be moving to a new home,” says Director Michele Kopach, MD. “The new space will allow us to meet rising demand for diagnostic services in our community. Not only can we treat more patients, we can reach more people who need to know how important it is to be screened for breast disease. This grant, and continued philanthropic support for the Women’s Diagnostic Center, will truly make a difference in the lives of thousands of people. We are so grateful for the opportunity this grant affords us.”
On December 23, Jim Brexler, President and CEO of Doylestown Health, also made a statement. “The support of Governor Wolf and Senator Santarsiero is a tremendous boost to the transformative renovation and expansion of key priorities across Doylestown Health,” said Brexler. “They join a growing list of Board members, staff and community donors who recognize the need for state-of-the-art facilities, enhanced services, and program growth to serve our community. This support comes at a pivotal time as we continue to raise critical funding for ONE VISION: The Campaign for Doylestown Health allowing us to safeguard the future of healthcare while remaining independent. We deeply appreciate the Commonwealth’s investment in our community health system.”
Design and planning for the relocation are now underway, and announcements are expected to follow this year regarding completion dates. By relocating the Women’s Diagnostic Center from its current position in the hospital, additional space will be created for continued renovations and improvements to the main building.
Donations are still needed to reach the One Vision campaign goal. With transformative investments such as the recently opened Woodall Center for Heart and Vascular Care, expanded surgical suites, and the Legacy Endowment Fund, among other highlights, One Vision is laying the groundwork for Doylestown Health’s second century of care.
